Invitation to Dancers
Would you like to be famous? Do you think that you have what it takes
to be the next Big Stars of the Salsa Scene? Then why not compete in
this years UK Salsa Open Championships.
Win this and then take part in the World Salsa Open in Puerto Rico.
This year, due to the short notice, the heats, eliminator and
semi-finals will all be roled up into one event on Easter Sunday 12
April at the Easter Extravaganza scalalatina Bank Holiday All-Nighter SCALA and will lead up to the finals at
The London Latin MiniFest
All-Dayer (24 May).
General Rules and Guidelines
1. The World Salsa Open is an international salsa
dance competition open to all nationalities, cultures and countries
2. The UK Salsa Open is the Official UK
Qualifier for The World Salsa Open in Puerto Rico.
3. The competition is open. (not divided in
professionals and amateurs)
4. At least one of the dancers in the couple has to be national of
the country where the Open is held.
5. If there is a Salsa Open in a country, a couple from such country
would not be able to participate in the Puerto
Rico
salsa open unless they qualified in their country.
6. It is responsibility of the participants to
obtain the necessary visas to enter Puerto Rico.
7. Minimum age to enter: 18 years old.
8. In a national championship, the couples can
compete in any of the heats and in more than one heat unless they
came 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any of the
heats.
9. The competitors will accept the final
decision of the judges.
10. At the National Salsa opens, the voting
forms will be available after the competitions to those couples who
wish to see their marks
only if they ask the competition director.
11. At the World Salsa Open the dancers will
not have access to the voting forms.
12. Once the participants sign the entry form
they accept the general rules and authorise the event organisers to
use pictures and video of their competition dance for promotional
purposes.

Participation & Representation
13. All prospective UK Salsa Open entrants must
participate in the Elimination/Semi-Final event on Easter Sunday 12
April @ Scala.
14. Only 6 couples will go through to the
finals.
15. The couples who place 1º, 2º & 3 º places
in the national final go straight to the national semi-final the
following year.
16. The 8 couples who reach the national final
can represent that country at the World Salsa open in
Puerto Rico.
17. The winners of the 1st place in
a national final will go straight into the national winner’s heat at
the World Salsa Open which is the second round of the World Salsa
Open.
18. The couples who won 2nd to 8th
place at a national competition will have to participate in the
first round of the World Salsa Open.
19. The winners of the World Salsa Open (World
Salsa champions) will go straight to the World Salsa Open semi-final
the following year. The same is true for the 2º & 3º place of the
World Salsa Open
20. Couples
from a country where there is no Salsa Open can represent their
country directly in Puerto Rico event at the first round of the competition.
21. If there is a Salsa Open in a country, no
couples can compete in Puerto Rico unless they have classified in their
respective country.
22. Couples who came 4º to 12º at the World
Salsa open can go straight to the second round the following year.
23. The benefits mentioned above only apply to
the couples for as long as they are still dancing together.

Format & Judges
24. The Salsa Open director must do a random
choice of order of appearance for the couples in all heats.
25. For the final, the order will be given by
the points obtained at the semi-finals. The couples who got fewer
points will dance first and the ones with the most points last.
26. In the national heats the competitors will
be judged by 3 Official Salsa Open judges.
27. In the final of all the regional, national
and world championships the minimum number of judges will be 5 and
it can go up to 7, 9 or 11 according to the Organising committee.
28. The World salsa Open has 4 stages:
1º Ronda - 2º Ronda – Semi-final - Final.
