The European Salsa & Bachata Open Championships – Europe’s Premier Latin Dance Championships

THE EUROPEAN SALSA OPEN

THE EUROPEAN SALSA OPEN has been developed as one of a number of worldwide qualifying events for the Global Salsa Championships. They promise to be THE LAST WORD in Latin Dance Championships, run BY dancers for dancers.

Being a fully developed event, the Global Salsa Championships has a number of “Divisions” including separate divisions for Cross-body salsa AND a Cabaret division which allows for All styles of salsa to compete. There are also Bachata and Cha-cha as well as Cabaret and Pro-Am competitions.

However, for our own “smaller” event – The European Salsa Open – we are keeping it nice a simple.

• First and foremost, ours is a championships for couples only – we are not currently running a Team Division.
• The competition is open to dancers of all styles of salsa.
• We have NOW THREE LEVELS of competition – Professional, Semi-Pro & Amateur

As the names suggests, these championships are OPEN to anyone from anywhere (provided that they are 16 years or older).

These Global Championships are part of The World Salsa Summit, which takes place in Miami every February (see www.worldsalsasummit.com for more info). The whole event is being coordinated by two of the most respected members in the global Latin Dance World – Nelson Flores & Billy Farjado who have a wealth of experience at both judging and running Latin World Championship events as well as running some of the best dance festivals in the World.

Imagine it, a congress that includes the very best teachers and performers from around the entire Latin Dance World alongside THE Global Salsa Championships – all this under the stunning Caribbean sunshine.

THE EUROPEAN BACHATA OPEN

In 2012 we were asked to enhance our championships further by adding a Bachata Division and so we have developed, THE EUROPEAN BACHATA OPEN. As with the Salsa Open, the event is OPEN to anyone (over 16 yrs old) and, just like in the salsa competition, we have three levels of competition: Amateur, Semi-Pro level and Pro level (see definitions below).

MASSIVE NEWS – We ARE OFFICIAL

The success of the previous events added to the massive level of interest and, as a result, we have now signed the deal to make this THE OFFICIAL BRITISH title events.
The means that the winners of the European Salsa Open title will also be crowned The British Salsa Open Champions
and the winners of the European Bachata Open title will also be crowned The British Bachata Open Champions
AND we are talking to a number of worldwide promoters/organisers to expand this event even further.

So, how do you take part???

The Format
Between 1 January and 18 August each year there will be in excess of 20-24 nationwide heats (see details below). These heats are for Amateur/Semi-Pro dancers only (Professional couples will be “invited” to participate directly in the Grand Finals). So, you can compete in Salsa or Bachata OR both.

The organizers of each local heat are responsible for providing their own judges as well as the exact format of the heat on that night. However, all heats are judged on FREESTYLE dance ability and there is NO requirement for Amateurs/Semi-Pro dancers to prepare any choreography. The winners of each heat will qualify by rights to take part in the Grand Finals at SCALA as part of The London LatinFest on Saturday 24 August.

For the Amateurs and Semi-Pro levle competitors, the finals will ALSO be judged on Freestyle Dance Ability (No Choreography is required for these level).

A number of Pro level couples have been invited and signed up to take part in the finals. These couples will be judged BOTH on their Freestyle AND their Choreographed Performance ability.

Prizes

Semi-Pro level Salsa winners will receive a prize package worth £500 including a cash prize of £200

Professional level Salsa winners win a prize Package worth £2000-£2500. They automatically qualify to participate in the Global Salsa Championships in Miami in 2014 AND we will arrange flights and hotel accomodation for them as part of our Package.

Amateur Bachata winners – Details of the prizes are being finalised.

Semi-Pro level Bachata winners will receive a prize package worth £500 including a cash prize of £200 PLUS work contracts

Professional level Bachata winners – Details of the prizes are being finalised.
